Evolution only granted us happiness in pursuit
Of satisfaction, never happiness in having
And then being thereafter contented. Enlightenment
Makes for an atrocious reproductive strategy,
And what does not reproduce does not long continue.
Thus was enlightenment winnowed and winnowed
Until it became a nonexistent trait in our natural state,
At which point, we happily seized upon it
As our newest unlikely pursuit.
